Sterling silver and gold jewelry are not bullet proof! The best way to care for your jewelry is to never expose your pieces to water, soaps, and chemicals. These can deteriorate the metal as well as the stones.  It is best to remove jewelry before hand washing, showering, and swimming. When you're not wearing them, store them in a closed jewelry box or container.
